International Women's Day 2023 - #EmbraceEquity

In honour of International Women’s Day, we wanted to highlight the incredible contribution our female team members play in making Anderson Wilde & Harris one of London’s leading property experts.

In our experience, the property market tends to be quite a male-dominated industry, but we are delighted to see more and more women being recognised in the field. We know that our team is much more valuable for having a solid mix of both male and female staff, across all our departments.

We asked some of our female property experts what they enjoy about working for Anderson Wilde & Harris:

“Working for AWH has been fantastic for me – so much so that I’ve spent the majority of my career here! Being part of this small company with a family feel has allowed me to stretch my capabilities and experience work over a wide range of different business roles. I enjoy the tight-knit and supportive environment, but also the flexibility that a small business can give.”
Elizabeth Walsh, BSc (Hons) MSc Chartered MCIPD, Director

It is amazing to work for AWH.  I have been with AWH for almost 20 years, where I started as Admin Staff and then moved into the Property Management Department. One of the reasons I like working for AWH is that the staff are all very kind, helpful and friendly. In my 20 years at AWH I have seen lots of changes and it has been great working at AWH.
Ramila Mistry, Assistant Property Manager

It is great working for AWH. There is a strong sense of community. Everyone is willing to answer your questions no matter how silly they are. Everyone really wants the best for each other, and the company structure means everyone is working as a team which is really nice as we all have shared goals (to do good work and produce good reports), and all depend on each other to get those goals achieved.

Advice for future female property experts

We are fully convinced that having a diverse mix of male and female experts within our teams helps us offer our clients the exceptional level of service they have come to expect.  However, when considering a career in such a traditionally male-dominated industry, many women wonder whether it is worth it. Without hesitation Ramila exclaimed:

“Absolutely women should take up a career in property. It is a very rewarding industry to work in.”

When asked what advice they would give women looking to build a career in the property market, Elizabeth said:

“I am very biased towards small businesses as it’s been such a great opportunity for me, however I would say to choose your future employer carefully and make sure they’re able to give you the breadth and depth of training that you’re looking for. Next, don’t be afraid to take risks. The property industry is constantly evolving and offers many opportunities for growth and advancement. Be open to taking risks and embracing new challenges in your career.”

Kate added:

Just do it! I am very fortunate that the time I have started my career there are a lot more women than maybe 10 or 20 years ago. Also, here at AWH there are proportionally a lot more women than in many other companies. Although it is traditionally a highly male-dominated industry, all the women I have met have been very supportive of one another, as are many of our male peers.
